For our outdoor learning day we did a variety of activities. We started off by going on a hunt around the school grounds for different natural materials that interested us. We found different coloured and shaped leaves, interesting looking stones, feathers and many other wonderful objects. We then used our findings to create a natural picture. They looked amazing! We went on to create a poster to protect our Dothill Nature Reserve. We talked about different ways we could protect the environment such as: keeping dogs on a lead, clearing up after dogs, binning rubbish, not picking the flowers, etc.
In the afternoon, we went on a walk around the nature reserve where we were shown different types of trees and different animals and birds that live around the reserve. To finish off the afternoon, the year 6's told us the stories they had created during the day.
For Chinese New Year, the children took a day trip to China! We created our boarding passes first thing in the morning ready for our long flight to China. We scanned our tickets and sat on the plane ready for take-off and described what we could see out of the window. While on the plane, we listened to some Chinese music and talked about the instruments we could hear and how it made us feel. We also discussed whether we would hear this sort of music in England.
When we landed, we all felt a bit hungry so we went to a Chinese restaurant to have some food! We tried some Chinese crackers with hoisin sauce, sweet and sour sauce and sweet chilli sauce, egg fried rice and a spring roll. Afterwards we tried to pay the bill but realised that Chinese numbers look different to ours, so we practised reading and writing numbers to 10. Then we practised saying hello, goodbye and my name is... in Chinese.
Finally, we finished off our trip by making some traditional Chinese crafts. We made some beautiful Chinese fans, a Chinese dragon, Chinese lanterns and we got to do some Chinese drawing.
We had a fantastic day!
We had some lovely costumes for World Book Day! The children loved showing each other what character they came as and the book it was from. We had a look at each others books and voted on the best costume!
It was really great to see the children's love and enthusiasm for reading!
