This morning, as part of Dothill Environment Day, we walked around the outside of our school led by the friends of Dothill Nature Reserve, who had set small animal friendly mammal traps. We stopped at each trap and observed what had been trapped. Most of the traps contained a mammal, however we were lucky enough to find two in one trap.
The mammals that were caught were Bank Voles, Wood mice, Field mice and Shrews. We were able to observe the mammals at close range, then were then carefully returned to their habitat.
We also had a team of children litter picking along the route we took. On our return to school we took the litter we had collected onto the playground and sorted it into groups. We were surprised to find so much, including 71 sweet wrappers and crisp bags, 11 magazines, 2 pieces of rubber and 17 pieces of paper.
