The Noah's Ark Mural was officially unveiled on Monday 26th November 2018
In attendance was Becca Butler (Head Teacher of Dothill Primary School), Cllr Cindy Mason-Morris (Mayor of Wellington), Mike Hughes (Volunteer of the Friends and Junior Friends of Dothill Local Nature Reserve), Psyche Hudson (Culture & Wellbeing Services Manager - Telford &Wrekin Council), plus Lily and Sam (eldest/youngest children in school that day).
Dothill was presented with a box that contains a list of over 5,000 species of plants, animals and fungi that currently live on the nature reserve. It is hoped that in 50 years time the box will be opened to see how things have changed.
October 2018 news:
As you will have seen in the Wellington Festival brochure your child brought home, we are taking part in the Children's Challenge (see page 12).
The Children’s Challenge is to create a permanent and lasting piece of outdoor art by painting pieces of slate with pictures of the animals and plants found at Dothill Nature Reserve. The Friends of Dothill Nature Reserve have been busy preparing the slate pieces – one for each child – and they are now ready to be painted in school.
How can you get involved?
The painted slates will be put into class bags and taken out into the Nature Reserve during the afternoon on Tuesday 16 October. FDNR volunteers will then ‘hide’ with a class bag along the path around the school and Dothill Pool. Once you have collected your child from school at the end of that day, we hope as many of you will be out and about finding the volunteer who has your child’s painted slate. This challenge is part of the ‘Walking to School ‘ initiative.
You can also get involved the following day, Wednesday 17 October. During the morning we will have a marquee in the car park area of school with the huge frame that will house all the slate pieces inside a border of the Nature Reserve. Each pupil will then be invited to come and place their piece inside the map, you are invited to help or just come and watch! It promises to be quite spectacular when completed.
Are you up to the challenge? We certainly are.
