School Meals - update Oct 2026

We would like to encourage families to consider choosing a school lunch for their child.

All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a free school meal every day through the Government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals offer.  Children in Years 3 to 6 may also be entitled to free school meals depending on their family circumstances. From September 2026, this includes children from households receiving Universal Credit. Families still need to apply for free school meals so that their entitlement is registered.

We offer children a choice each day, including a hot meal or a sandwich option. This gives children the opportunity to enjoy a school lunch while still having some choice over what they eat.  We are also able to cater for a wide range of allergies, intolerances and dietary requirements, ensuring that all children can access a safe and enjoyable school meal.

Choosing a school meal also helps our school. Funding for Universal Infant Free School Meals is linked to the number of eligible meals actually taken by children, so when eligible children do not take their free meal, the school does not receive the associated funding for that meal.

If your child may be entitled to benefits related free school meals, it is also important that you apply, even if your child is in Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 and already receives a free lunch. Registering for benefits-related free school meals helps to ensure our school receives additional funding to support eligible pupils.

To find out more about eligibility for free school meals or to make an application, please visit the Telford & Wrekin Council website: Telford & Wrekin Council | Free School Meals

You can also find information about our school meal menus, sandwich options and meal arrangements on our school website: School Meals | Dothill Primary School

We would really encourage families to make the most of the school meal offer. It is a convenient option for parents, gives all children a choice of lunch each day and helps us to make the most of the funding available to support all of our pupils.

Thank you for your continued support.

Kind regards.
