📚 What does our learning look like? 📚

⭐ Our Provision-Based Learning ⭐️
The Rainbow Room is thoughtfully set up with key areas of early development. Each area supports your child’s learning through hands-on, meaningful play:
- 🔢 Maths
- ✏️ Literacy
- 🧩 Understanding the World
- 💬 Communication & Language
- 🎨 Arts & Design
- 🏃 Physical Development
Every half term, we dive into an exciting new theme — and every week we step into a brand-new Storyland Adventure!
These stories are carefully chosen to introduce and deepen understanding of our theme. Story-based learning helps SEND children link concepts to real objects, build understanding through repetition, and make sense of the world around them.
Each provision area then comes alive with themed activities linked to our weekly story. Each activity is set on a Monday and continues to a Friday. This provides each child with time to investigate, explore and access the learning at their own pace, and gain depth as we learn more about it throughout the week! In these activities children engage in hands-on, sensory-rich exploration that builds confidence, develops key skills, and makes learning irresistible!

✏️ Our Work Basket Learning ✏️
Alongside our playful provision, we also include short, structured learning opportunities called Work Basket Activities. These are simple, enjoyable tasks designed to gather children’s learning through gentle recording activities (like early workbooks).
Every work basket is designed to to meet yours child’s learning age equivalent, ensuring they have the time, space and support to grow at their own pace.
Some work groups may begin with small sensory circle times, where we focus on:
✨ Listening skills
✨ Attention and shared focus
✨ Social communication
✨ Turn-taking
✨ Sharing ideas and exploring ideas together
After group teach, each child completes a 1:1 Work Basket session with an adult, giving them focused, personalised support and opportunities to shine.
For each work basket (and general behaviours/interactions in the Rainbow Room) the children will earn a ‘Dojo’ point that they can see and hear be added to the monster with their name. The children love to see immediate positive reinforcement for their hard work and watch the number get higher throughout the day!

🏠 How do We Communicate With Our Families? 🏠
In The Rainbow Room, we believe that strong relationships are the heart of a happy, successful learning journey. When teachers, children and families feel connected and supported, our little learners thrive and our families feel like true partners in everything we do.
We see communication not just as information-sharing, but as building a warm, trusting team around your child. You’re not just welcome here, you’re part of our Rainbow Room family. 💖
📕 Your Child’s Red Book
Every child has their own Red Book, a simple but powerful way for families and staff to stay connected.
You can use this book to:
- share any information you’d like us to know
- celebrate special moments from home
- tell us about any changes, worries or achievements
- ask questions or pass on messages
We check the Red Books daily so nothing gets missed.
👋 Daily Check-Ins
Every morning and every home time, you’ll be greeted by a friendly member of our team.
These moments allow us to:
- check in on your child’s wellbeing
- share quick updates
- offer reassurance
- listen to anything you’d like to share
We know that calm, positive handovers help children start and finish their day feeling settled and safe and help families feel at ease too.
💬 Staying Connected Through Seesaw
We love using Seesaw as a vibrant window into your child’s world at school!
Each week, you’ll receive:
✨ A summary of our provision activities for the week
✨ A short explanation of why these activities matter for development
✨ A selection of photos celebrating your child’s adventures, play moments and achievements
We also upload fun, optional home activities linked to our learning themes, perfect for exploring together, strengthening understanding and sharing magical moments at home.
